War Of The Colossal Beasts Vs. The Deadly Mantis

* = He's just like your Grandfather, except for more crotchety and he has a TARDIS.

This one will be short, but since I’m trying to stave off soul crushing boredom coupled with a desire to pull a George Costanza

and sleep beneath my desk, I NEED something to keep me going and focused.

I finished Old School Doctor Who Episode 2, ‘The Daleks’ (**** ½ out of 5), late Monday night. I have to say as fantastic as the build up was with the Thal, the irradiated husk that is Skaro, and of course the mighty Daleks I was left just a smidge disappointed.

Don’t get me wrong I thoroughly enjoyed the seven episodes that made up this particular story. In fact I found it amazing that really The Doctor STILL isn’t really the star of the show. He’s simply a plot device moving things forward. It isn’t until the last two parts that he starts to become a bit more than a sneaky curmudgeon. I can forgive that the Daleks are not yet the UBER threat they are later in the Who-verse, but to basically be defeated because someone shuts off your magnet rang a tad hollow for a race that is so ingrained as being B.A. in Geek Culture. Overall, this is just another nice jaunt into the History of Who.

On a side note I’ve begun Episode 4, ‘Marco Polo’, which is again like 7 episodes. I had also forgotten that this is one of the ‘Lost’ episodes, meaning that the video footage was destroyed. So I’m watching stills with stage direction on the bottom, with the original dialogue and soundtrack. It’s not the most exciting television, but the story is fantastic. I’m very intrigued to see what happens as multiple factions are at work, The Doctor is finally back in his precious TARDIS, Susan has a new friend, and Marco Polo is a self-serving dick. Good stuff!

How ‘bout some…

RANDOM CRAP!

- I’m a sucker for Guilt.
- I have gotten my hands on a copy of Warrior Heroes after a few years of reading this gentlemen’s fantastic blog; http://talomir.blogspot.com I scrounged up a copy of Warrior Heroes,

the system he employs. With the sheer amount of minis as my disposal it leaves me with infinite possibility for play. The game appears to be quick, simplistic, very deep, and extremely fun. I’m really looking forward to the idea that it has it’s own ongoing narrative that is pliable for customizing. If I had my way, and I rarely do, I’d most likely want to play this bi-monthly with three to five people, building the world ourselves, making adjustments for the fluff we invent, and then just having a great time. Will it ever happen? Most likely not, but it would be great if it did.
- Saturday is the wedding of my sister-in-law, La-La. I’m really happy for her and her future husband who’s a great guy.
- I finished the 1st two seasons of Warehouse 13 (*** out of 5).

It’s not bad. It’s not great, but it’s enjoyable. A show about tracking down modern ‘artifacts’ that give those that possess them abilities, and many of them not necessarily good abilities, is interesting. However it also gets a little bit repetitive. Luckily most of the characters are at least interesting, and the second season antagonist is FANTASTIC! I read that it’s going to have a third season, which is good because I have a few questions after the second season finale. They’ve got me interested, the real test will be can they hold my interest.
- You know what sounds good right now? A GIANT bowl of beer cheese soup.
- I won’t be painting tonight, as M.C.M. are coming over for dinner. Maybe I’ll spend some quality time finishing up all the minis that are on the cusp of being done tomorrow night.
- After I purchase my Terraclips sets I’m setting my eyes on Battleship Galaxies. The game is getting high praise, is a Sci-Fi fleet game by the guys who designed Heroscape (*** ½ out of 5), and really looks fun. In the meantime though I’m starting to salivate at the prospect of Conquest Of Nerath arriving most likely in the next few weeks. It’s also getting good reviews and how could I not enjoy a mass combat D&D game? HOW!?
- I still want to play that damn Wrestling RPG. I just have to many cool ideas in my head for it, and I REALLY want to watch Dave cut crazy Randy Savage style promos.
- Tired doesn’t not adequately express how I currently feel.

I think it’s time to get back at it…

“I had visions, I was in them,
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories,
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
So when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(But no one ever does)

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
and I'm so hot 'cause I'm in hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a TV

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now I'm an amputee, Goddamn you

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin, to live so well

I wanna publish 'zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind
Mind...

Paranoia, paranoia
Everybody's comin' to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm runnin' underground with the moles
Diggin' holes
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me, whoa!

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live this well”

* = Trust him, he's The Doctor...
