Hamburger Hill Vs. Donkey Punch

I don’t have a lot to talk about today, I just felt like I HAD to blog, some type of bizarre compulsion I guess. It’s not like I’ve got a ton of stuff going on right now to be excited about, or that I’m preoccupied by some issue. I think I simply felt like I needed to keep my bloggin’ hand strong.

Why do people hate on the internet(s)? I just got done reading a hate-fest on a comic site regarding the newest issue of Blackest Night and the final issue of Flash: Rebirth. The funny thing is these are the same guys who hate on EVERYTHING Geoff Johns, the writer of both issues, ever does. Why do these folks feel this unconscious need to attack everything? I mean I don’t like Bendis, but I appreciate what he’s done. The first two arcs of Powers are flat out brilliant, his concepts in the 616 Marvel Universe are pure bliss it’s just that the execution leaves a LOT to be desired, and last but not least Ultimate Spider-Man is nothing short of being on par with what Lee & Ditko originally did. See, I can appreciate him even if I’m not into his stuff. Again look at Mark Millar, who I think is a grabtastic, over hyped douche bag I actually enjoyed Wanted, the comic not the abortion of a movie, and his collaboration with Grant Morrison on the short lived DC series Aztec. What I don’t get is people who go on these boards and rip writers, who write FOR A LIVING; about books they are paying to read. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. It’s depressing to see that there can’t even be an intelligent discourse about said comic either because ‘Internet(s) Hater’ is so irrational and has nothing but an opinion of “this is teh suxor” that he/she can’t defend themselves with out anything other than personal insults. Have we lost our ability to have a rational discussion? I mean Work Joe and I can argue until we’re blue in the face, but we can do so respectfully and as human beings. Joe C. and I disagree constantly on comics, but we appreciate the knowledge and opinion that the other brings to the table. Dave and I can poke fun and a critical eye at each other’s music, but we can do so in fun without making it about personal attacks or making it about “having to win” a discussion. At what point did the vast majority of the world forget how to do this? We see it on T.V., on the Interweb(s), and even on the radio. It’s as if we’ve lost the ability to say “good point, but we’re just going to have to agree to disagree…” Is there ever a discussion SO important that you can surrender your civility and common sense in order to simply ‘win’? Or have we just taken our cues from T.V. where politicians and pundits will flat out LIE about one another with a straight face and with NO remorse, and there is NO consequence, or the Internet(s) where people are protected by faceless anonymity, or even the radio where people don’t have to look each other in the eye and deal with the fact that that other person your calling an idiot has feelings. Are we so callous and self absorbed that we can’t see past our own bullshit long enough to appreciate that we don’t have to like, agree, or even think that someone else’s opinion is coherent, but we can at least appreciate that they have an opinion, and give them the opportunity to state it.

F’n stupid people. The sad part is, I’m beginning to think we’re ALL stupid ‘people’.

BAH!

RANDOM CRAP!

- See what happens when I have nothing to talk about?
- Is it to late to jump on the U.S.A. hockey bandwagon? I mean ‘cause I’m dying to be on a bandwagon, and especially one powered by irrational four year cycled fervent nationalism.
- I sort of kinda want to see The Crazies
- I’d feed a lady to a killer whale for some fried chicken right now. To soon?
- Is it crazy to keep animals that are carnivores in captivity? I mean it is called a Killer Whale. Don’t get me wrong I’m not blaming the lady who died, she was doing her job, but this Orca had already killed two other people, and for what? So tourists can watch it jump? Are we that starved for entertainment? You take a social animal and cage it, and your going to get instability. Same thing if you take a person and lock them up for years at a time to only be cared for by monkeys. Sure he’s being cared for, but he can’t communicate or have any viable relationships, so you are breeding mental instability, usually exhibited by aggression. It’s also sad that I’d just above talk about being callous & self-absorbed and then make a crack about someone who just died. Sorry.
- I did however love that someone referred to the Russian National Hockey team’s effort while getting whupped by the Canadian team as a “Eurotrash” effort. HI-larious! Even better that there is now a backlash against the guy.
- I’m eagerly awaiting Dave’s opinion on The Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets album “The Shadow Out Of Tim”, which I love. It’ll be cool to hear how he breaks it down.
- Jim from The Office for Captain America? Really Marvel? Really? Huh, maybe it could work…
- Last night I exposed Cassandra to the 1981 HBO comedy special of The Pee Wee Herman Show (*** ½ out of 5). I’m not sure she enjoyed it, but I think it is something that ANYONE who enjoys comedy should track down and watch. For gawd’s sake it has Phil Hartman as Captain Carl!
- I’m not sure I can wait till 3/4/10 to watch JLA – Crisis on Earth 2, I keep reading reviews and everyone makes me SUPER excited. Not to mention that Planet Hulk is also getting decent reviews.
- If I had my druthers and could start a consistent D&D group right now, I think I’d be torn on whether to use the new revamped 4E Darksun setting OR the DDI Chaos Scar as the setting. I’m insanely intrigued by both and there abundant use of the Aberration monster type. I purposefully steered clear of that in my current D&D group, and while I don’t regret that decision, it would make for an interesting change in tone and direction of DMing, not to mention I have ton of sweet minis that fit the bill.

Well, I suppose…

“Kill one, you’re a murderer. Kill a country you’re a conqueror. Kill them all & you’re a Gawd…”

  1. The Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets album “The Shadow Out Of Tim”,

As a band doing things based on H P Lovecraft, it doesn't work for me.
I like the idea of them doing HPL based stuff, but it's not creepy, so therefore it fails in that aspect

As a band playing catchy fantastic power pop, I think it's fantastic!
The songs are catchy, the vocals are really good and the playing is great.

  2. As we discussed it's been called, "Lovecraft you can dance to!"

There are only a few 'creepy' tracks, but you are spot on with the musical analysis, it's damn catchy.
