White Zombie Vs. The Body Snatchers

* = Remember when Halloween was a virtually douche free holiday?

Well Red Carpet Halloween 2011 came and went. It was a good time, it was a tad small on turnout, and I’d use the word ‘intimate’ to describe it. While it wasn’t the wild affair it has been in the past with no Nick & no Ant it was fun. There was a whole lotta trivia, some monkey shenanigans, and some bad Ving Rhames zombie movie on the Sci-Fi Channel. I have to also say between M&C’s EPIC Sonnie & Cher costume and our winning costume of David as The Macho Man Randy Savage. Here is just a snippet of what we all experienced Saturday when we were forced to bow down to the 'Macho King';
As you can see it was pretty damn funny. I think I heard the phrase ‘Comparatively Speaking’ about a million times. Oh and I had Slim Jims thrown at me at least twice. Overall it was a good time. Even though I wasn’t really ‘feeling’ it this year I have to admit that my wife puts on a hell of a shindig and my friends are really top notch.

Sunday I got up at a reasonable hour and my brother-in-law Lee and I watched Captain America: The First Avenger (Infinite *’s out of 5). I’d held off watching it out of fear that it was just going to be alright, don’t get me wrong sometimes ‘alright’ is good, but I was fearful. I’ve always been a Cap guy. It was the first comic I started following, along with Iron Man, way back in the Jefferson Elementary School library. So the idea of seeing a movie based on the WWII exploits had me at best skeptical. What can I say? It was blissful. The tone, the action, the Red Skull, Dum Dum Dugan, Arnim Zola, the Cosmic Cube, the ambiguous end for Bucky, all leading up to Cap waking up in the present day, FLAWLESS! I can’t express enough just how good Chris Evans was as Steve Rogers, he was outstanding. It was just a fun movie; I laughed, I gasped, and I even got a tad misty eyed at the end with Cap’s last conversation with Sharon Carter. I’m not sure how to explain just how much I enjoyed this movie. I think the highest praise I can pay it is it made me want to watch it all over again IMMEDIATELY. I can’t wait to watch it again with Cassandra.

You know I think I’m going to cut this short today with some…

RANDOM CRAP!

- Another week’s worth of Pathfinder Minis. I have to say I’m VERY unimpressed with this week’s batch. This is the first time I’m seeing them hit a very ‘Wizkids’ level on the paint and sculpting. The Zombie is just BLAH!
The Werewolf looks goofy at best. I do have to say, I believe it’s a Specter, looks interesting though. This makes me very leery of what’s hitting the stores in December. See I had high hopes for this line; it was going to fill the pre-paint void that was left by WotC, and that was unsuccessfully patched by the virtually non-existent Legendary Encounters by Reaper minis.
I really wanted this to be the next big thing as I do feel Paizo puts out some great & memorable adventures & adventure paths chock full of great NPC’s, interesting takes on classic monsters, and just has a feel tonally that I really love. Since I can’t support Paizo by playing Pathfinder, I’m a D&D 4E guy after all; I at least wanted to give them my money with this mini line. This was going to be Paizo’s way of parting me from my hard earned cash. Now I’m not so sure.
Wizkids has made a cottage industry out of getting me to pay for things that very rarely live up to the production picks. Now of course there are some exceptions, but overall there is a reason I don’t buy much of anything from them anymore. The initial wave of pics had my wallet open, now I’m not so sure. Maybe I have enough werewolves and zombies. Maybe. I do dig that Specter though. See I’m torn. What do the handful of you that read this blog think? Yeah or nay on the Wizkids/Paizo minis thus far? - I need to get on the lawn again this week to mulch up all those leaves, but damn if I can find the motivation to do it.

- This Saturday we’re headed BACK to ‘The Cloud’ and grilling a Turkey. We’ve begun the thawing process, and my hope is to get the thing in the Brine by Wed. night. I’ve never done a Turkey quiet this way before so I’m a tad nervous, but really excited.

Well I’m done with this today…

“Well I've opened up my veins too many times
And the poison's in my heart and in my mind
Poison's in my bloodstream, poison's in my pride
I'm after rebellion, I'll settle for lies

Is it any wonder that my mind's on fire
Imprisoned by the thoughts of what you do
Is it any wonder that the joke's an iron
And the jokes on you

Experiments that failed too many times
Transformations that were too hard to find
Poison's in my bloodstream, poison's in my pride
I'm after rebellion, I'll settle for lies

Yes I know the secrets of the iron and mind
They're trinity acts a mineral fire
Yes I know the secrets of the circuitry mind
It's a flaming wonder telepath

Well I've opened up my veins too many times
And the poison's in my heart and in my mind
Poison's in my bloodstream, poison's in my pride
I'm after rebellion, I'll settle for lies

Is it any wonder that my mind's on fire
Imprisoned by the thoughts of what you do
Is it any wonder that the joke's an iron
And the jokes on you And the joke's on you”
