Buffalo 66 Vs. Rare Exports

* = Sadly enough I think I would vote for Michael Palin right now...

Christmas Movie-A-Thon came and went this Friday and was really fun. We managed to get through all three flicks, which is a surprise really. The final bill was; Die Hard I (***** out of 5), Gremlins (**** out of 5), & the MST3K classic Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (**** out of 5). You know Die Hard I is a damn fine film. HANS GRUBER RULES YOU ALL! Sorry, that was just there waiting to erupt. Gremlins holds up surprisingly well for its age and special effects. It’s a weird little movie in that it has some horror movie moments, but it’s really sort of a bizarre family slash comedy. Of course I loved the MST3K episode, but I was actually surprised that some of the non-Misties in our midst enjoyed it as much as they did. Maybe that’s hope for the future. Amazingly enough though the break-out star of the Movie-A-Thon was a little extra gem I discovered while trying to get a hold of a new copy of the MST3K episode. Apparently Showtime has a show called Dave’s Old Porn, starring comedian Dave Attell.

In it the very funny host has porn stars and comedians on as he watches his Porn collection, & HILARITY ensues. It is as warped as warped gets, but it’s a riot. I laughed so hard during a few of the episodes that I went into a coughing spell, I cried, and I almost pooped myself. It’s a show that really captures the MST3K vibe while being as raunchy as possible, so I dig it, and I figure if you’re reading this blog you most likely will as well.

Saturday night we went out to dinner with the fully assembled Family for dueling birthdays. In addition I got some sweet swag for the day of my birth. I received Small World and an expansion, the D&D R.T.S. PC game Dragonshard, a board game called Trollhalla, and a little kid’s book. The reality is I didn’t get one crappy gift. Small World is one of my all time favorite board games, & now that I have the main game I can start to grab up the expansions. I had a ‘copy’ of Dragonshard and while it’s a pain in the ass at times it’s a very different R.T.S. game with a dungeon crawling component that’s brilliant, it’s another one of those PC games that I can lose entire days playing. I haven’t played Trollhalla, but it’s gotten really good reviews on Board Game Geek, it’s cute looking, and apparently is an easy & quick play so I know Cassandra will play it. Last but not least was the Marvel ‘Find Them’ kid’s book. This sucker already paid immediate dividends as Sean, Maddy, & I already got through it once. Oh and for the record Maddy digs The Leader, which is F’N BRILLIANT!

It’s another week so it’s ANOTHER round of Pathfinder Pre-Paints!

They had held back on the Gargoyle so long that I had inflated high hopes, and unfortunately like about 50% of this set I’m disappointed. It just looks really ‘blah’. There is no sense of movement or sense of it being dynamic, it’s just sort of copin’ a squat. When you have a miniature that is basically one color it has to have something else going for it. The two D&D Minis Gargoyles are good examples of this. The early set Gargoyle is in mid run or just taking off to fly, it’s a dynamic pose, and the second Earth Elemental Gargoyle, which is squatting on a tombstone, is so compact that it looks ready to spring. This one just leaves me cold. That brings us to the Goblins, which I really like. You look at these and they scream ‘PATHFINDER!’ The one disappointment I have is the exclusion, due to quality issues, of the Goblin Shaman. So now we get four goblins in the set, but really only two sculpts. I’m not big on fillers in blind boosters, so this irks me a bit. Then I just remind myself that I’ll only be getting these off the secondary market anyways and I’m less irritated.

Speaking of Miniatures, I’m beginning my second run of D&D Adventure System monster cards. Here’s an early first draft of a Half Orc Spy;
It’s got a few adjustments that need to be made, but overall I’m happy with it and the other four monsters I hammered out last night. I’m starting to get a good idea of how I want beasts to come together in terms of this game now. I still sometimes reverse the tactic order and have to really control my desire to give monsters higher hit points, but that’s what the Board Game Geek community is for, to keep me in line. By the by for you D&D players out there, if you want to give me your characters I’ll try and hammer out an Adventure System version for you.

RANDOM CRAP!

- HOLY CRAP! BATMAN ALERT!

- I’m grilling when I get home, it’s 40 degrees so there is NO excuse for me not to.
- GAH! I’ve got to give Fantasy Quest a go this week, as I’ve had the stuff out and read through the rules twice. I’m always just a little intimidated to play solo games as I’m a child of video games so I’m afraid I’ll lose interest without the obnoxious Game Table banter that makes every board game fun.
- Cinnamon Whisky is OUTSTANDING, perhaps TO outstanding.
- I’m irritated with everything and everyone today and I don’t know why.
- No football for this weekend, which was really weird. I spent a great deal of time Saturday and Sunday installing and playing Dragonshard. Then last night it was making D&D Adventure System Cards. After seeing the highlights, or low-lights depending on whom you root for, I didn’t miss much. I did see that Todd Haily got canned today. That leaves me wondering just who Scott Peoli is going to replace him with; perhaps we’ll get a REAL push for Bill Cowher.
- I miss you Ant. There I said it and I’m not afraid to admit it.

Well the drama of an audit isn’t going to ‘enjoy’ itself…

”Policeman watching you
I see everything the policeman sees
City's on fire, it's a billion degrees
Oh oh

The policeman he waves me through
That's the difference between me and you
We're watching hot tits on ice 'til we freeze
Oh oh

White DJ in Detroit
Black MC in Tokyo
White girl in a black Blockbuster Video
Oh oh

Aaaaaaaaaah!
(Something wrong with us)
There's something very wrong with us tonight
Aaaaaaaaaah!
(Something wrong with us)
There's something very wrong with us tonight
So let's go out tonight

Subway passenger
I see everything that the passenger sees
One hundred buildings for every five trees
Oh oh

And I will ride 'til the ride is through
That's what the passenger's expected to do
Looking to pick up a Japanese
Venereal disease

Dutch hip-hop in Atlanta
Tight new R&B in Estonia
Just another sick American at Yoshinoya
Oh oh

Aaaaaaaaaah!
(Something wrong with us)
There's something very wrong with us tonight
Aaaaaaaaaah!
(Something wrong with us)
There's something very wrong with us tonight
So let's go out tonight”
