Firebreather Vs. Timecop

* = It's as if we need a holiday from a holiday...

The worst part about a holiday ‘weekend’ is coming back and being fried. I’m so tired I’m having trouble keeping my eyes focused on anything. I just keep reminding myself I just need to get through the day, it’s not difficult, it’s just exhausting.

I did get to watch quiet a bit of neat stuff over the ‘break’ though;
- Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part I (**** ½ out of 5) – Cassandra has literally been jumping with anticipation of seeing this flick for about four months, so we took some time post Black Friday shopping to take it in. Now while this is a very good flick, in fact borderline fantastic, it is a D-O-W-N-E-R-! I had heard it compared to Empire Strikes Back, and while they have similarities they are different beasts. Empire has some high points, some laughs, and a feeling like while things aren’t good there is hope. Deathly Hallows feels truly hopeless. It bludgeons you with just how overwhelmed, unorganized, and scared the protagonists are. There is a really effective torture scene as well, effective being that it was repulsive, masterful in that the vast majority of it is done off camera. This is a incredibly well crafted film, and part of a wickedly weaved tapestry that is infinitely fascinating in it’s audacious execution. Now I find myself anticipating Part II and FINALLY getting to see all of these villainous curs get their comeuppance.

- Young Justice (***** out of 5) – Pitch perfect DC Universe. That’s all I can really say. The art was fantastic, and I’m sorry Avengers, but the bar just got raised again and you’re beneath it. This was animation on par with DC’s Direct to DVD films, it was that good. Story wise it was a great set-up for the series kick-off in January. I found the main characters; Kid Flash, Aqualad, Robin, Superboy, and even the introduction to Miss Martian to be likable, different, and interesting. The League itself comes off as imposing, and somewhat invincible considering the sheer size and it’s make-up, I mean for gawd’s sake it’s got Hawkman & Captain Marvel in it. I loved the Speedy meltdown at the beginning & his leaving both Green Arrow and the ‘League’, it set a tone for the series. This simply took the superhero cartoon momentum that DC has been building and launches it into the stratosphere.

- Firebreather (*** ½ out of 5) – For those unfamiliar Firebreather is an Image comic put out by Phil Hester & Andy Kuhn. The premise is simple, super powered teen has trouble fitting in. The catch is outstanding; the boy is the son of his world’s King Of The Monsters. That’s right he’s basically Godzilla’s son! I was scratching my head a bit when I heard Cartoon Network was putting out a CGI movie of it, but was interested. I have to say it was a fun little flick. I loved that they kept Hester’s character designs as the basis, although everything felt a little stretched out and lanky. The story was good, and was an effective introduction to the principles, the conflict, and the world. The CGI animation was very good, and fit the superhero vs. giant monster vibe extremely well, while it did come off a bit wooden in the more character driven scenes. Overall this is a nice little flick that I thoroughly enjoyed and am eager to sit through again.

- Avengers, Earth’s Mightest Heroes “Gamma World” (*** ½ out of 5) – This show has built itself up into a juggernaut of Marvel nerdery wrapped in the shroud of ‘Old School’ comic sensibility. So when I saw that they were finally going back to the Cube breakout thread, as well as the Hawkeye Vs. Black Widow thread I was very excited. Unfortunately something got lost in the translation. Don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t bad, in fact it was very enjoyable, but when you’ve pushed the limit so far with this show to just get a ok episode(s) is disappointing. We do get a HUGE dose of the Leader, some background on the Abomination, Hawkeye and the Hulk, and Thor taking a hell of a beating. At the same time once we get past the initial assault on the Cube, the mutations, and the aftermath, the second part just sort of retells the same tale on a larger scale and I think that is what disappointed me. The lead up tease for December 5ths Masters Of Evil episode has me hoping for a strong rebound though. This show is the best thing Marvel has put together cartoon wise, but it has a way to catch the likes of Young Justice.

Maybe you’d like some leftover

RANDOM CRAP!

- Christmas shopping is almost done. We braved Menards early during Black Friday and I didn’t freak out. In fact it wasn’t that bad, we got all we needed in an efficient manner, helped our Karma out considerably, and made a day out of the trip. That being said I don’t think I’d ever be brave enough to hit a Best Buy or a Wal-Mart up, those folks are nuts.
- Chiefs are 7-4 who’d a thunk it?
- Saturday’s Thanksgiving dinner was outstanding. It was some of the best food I’ve had in some time. In addition Cassandra has busted out homemade pizza twice in five days and that was spectacular. I’ve been luckily enough to eat like a king for about half a week.
- I’m working my way through some Forgotten Realms novels, slow and steady, and while they aren’t the best things I’ve ever read they are darn entertaining.
- Marvel SAGA Campaign starts Saturday!
- The Sci-Fi War Game is starting to come together as I cut out 180 minis from the sprues this weekend. Oh and I put together my alien assault team. I took some WH40K Imperial Guardsmen, a couple Space Marines, & a Terminator together with Skrull heads. The idea is that this is a subjugated or colonized world’s population. I think I’m going to go with the name Bharata, which is another name for India, and treat them like conscripted soldiers. Oh and they are going to worship a god known as the Kirby, The Great Creator. I might pick up eight to ten Kroot and use them in a similar fashion. I’d love to play a battle where the ruined cityscape is overrun by zombies or ‘infected’ as well. So the combatants don’t just have to worry about the enemy but a swarm of voracious indiscriminant killers as well. I really like how this is shaping up.

I need a nap…

“Descending and turning
A shadow with soles in his hand
Standing alone by the garden I hear his command
Swaying blindly, under a moribund sun
Strangely the pain has only begun

Painlessly crossing the yard-lines,
the ball in his hand
Piles of bodies dispatched in the grass
and the sand
Helmets crashing, under the weight of the one
Vaguely aware the pain has begun

Out of the window the sirens of slaughter begin
Whistling alone in the silence
I hear them come in
Fading, blinded, foraging under the leaves
Strangely the pain is finally relieved”

Moon Vs. It Conquered The World

I hadn’t realized how little I’d blogged of late until I visited the ole’ blogspot and attempted to get caught up on all the blogs I read, and yes Virginia there are a ton of them and they are all amazing. I’ve come to realize that I really am blogging for no other reason that to ‘hear my own voice’. It’s just lately there has been so much going on, time has been at a premium, and best of all I’ve had plenty of folks to vent to, so the blog has sort of become a luxury.

It’s not that it’s a bad luxury, it’s just I haven’t had time for it. So today is a bit different. Today I have some time. The thing is I find myself in a quandary over what to talk about. So here are

THE TOP FIVE THINGS GOING ON RIGHT NOW

1) Snowpocalypse – Having made the drive home Saturday night from “The Cloud” at around midnight we got to witness firsthand the power of Mother Nature. The roads were insane; wind, ice, freezing mist, cars in the ditch, cars upside down, 694/394 split completely shut down, dogs & casts living together, MASS HYSTERIA!

So to hear that today was going to be part II of the weather terrorist’s newest “End Of Days” scenario I have some trepidations about the commute home. Oh and for the record I don’t hate shoveling I hate shoveling super heavy wet snow, but I digress. I have hopes that we’ll be able to avoid this round, but I’m realistic enough to understand that if I’m stuck in a car in a weather emergency at least it’s with my best friend, Cassandra.

2) Miniatures – Currently I’m painting; I’ve been painting a lot lately, although it’s slowed this week due to some numbness in my right hand. What I’ve gotten done has been fantastic, but what I’ve got planned could be spectacular! You see all the minis, all billion of them, I’m working on are fantasy stuff, but with the Sci-Fi Campaign on the verge of happening I’m starting to plot and plan out my army. Supposedly today that sweet deal I was able to find from Ireland will arrive, $30.00 bucks for 180 sprues of Sci-Fi bliss. This along with all the bits I have been assembling, alone with Mike’s stuff, and anything Josey & Dave can bring to the table gives all of us an amazing amount of options about crafting some crazy stuff. They'll just have to learn that in my basement there is ONLY WAR! Surprisingly enough I’m looking forward to killing them as much as simply putting the minis together, that’s probably a nice compliment to the No Limits rules system we’re going to use.

3) Home Day Care – Maybe you’ve heard the rumors, the sinister mumblings, or that faint whisper on the very winter wind itself, so let me allay or confirm your fears. It’s true. Cassandra is going to open her own Licensed Home Day Care. It won’t happen till next year, but it’s going to happen. The reasoning is simple, we have some friends who have children who are being taken to the cleaners paying for day care, and so we’ll be providing a cheaper option. This will allow Cassandra to get back to working with children, which she desperately misses. In addition it will allow us to have a brood of our own, which hopefully will quell the ‘Baby Fever’ that has burning within my wife since M&C had Mason. Best of all it will give her the chance to be her own boss and get back on track in regards to her Master’s Degree. This is a win/win/win situation for us. It’s a big deal. It’s going to be a LOT of work, the work is in progress as I write and it’ll remain in progress until the first day she has families into the fold. I’m excited about this next chapter in our lives.

4) Cartoons – So if you’ve even glanced at this blog in the last three months you’ll know how I’ve gushed over the Avengers Cartoon, which has an hour-long episode on Friday! Friday night also is the debut of Young Justice on Cartoon Network. We still have the Venture Brothers hour-long season finale on the DVR to watch, AND I’ve just read that after Friday night’s hour-long ‘Gamma World’ episode the Avengers will be back on December 5th with an episode entitled ‘Masters Of Evil’!

All this and there’s a kick ass looking Firebreather flick coming out on Cartoon Network as well. It’s good to be a super hero cartoon lover right now.

5) Cassandra – There is very little to say or go into detail about here, but the reality is she’s my best friend. I can’t think of another person I’d rather spend all my time with, to lounge on the couch with, to shovel the driveway with, to brave the shopping & Black Friday landscape with, to sit through the Vikings sucking with, or to watch a MST3K starring Peter Graves & Lee Van Cleef with. She’s just the best.

How ‘bout some

RANDOM CRAP!

- Childress is gone, and yet I’m still listening to talking heads on KFAN bash Farve relentlessly. I like the fact that they aren’t piling on Childress, but I think that they’ve lost all perspective on the team. The defense has been, at best, inconsistent and at worse a wreck. The offensive line has looked weak, and the receiving corps has been depleted. Farve hasn’t played well, but you win as a team, you LOSE as a team. I’m not even a Vikings guy, and I’m sick of hearing this crap.
- It looks like we’re finally going to get an episode four of Incognito Cinema Warriors XP! I’m incredibly excited.
- I was able to get my hands on the 5th Edition Warhammer 40K starter, Assault On Black Reach,

on the super cheap off Ebay awhile back. There is a lot of good stuff in there to put together. Now I just need some ideas on how to use the Orks. I really wish Games Workshop wasn’t so damn greedy, because damn do they make a nice plastic miniature.
- We’re sneaking off to see Harry Potter sometime in the next week, Cassandra can barely contain her excitement, and I have to admit I’m really interested. If it’s even half as good as the reviews about it then it might live up to the hype.
- I can’t believe College Basketball has already started. Even more incredible is that I’ve watched games not involving KU. Oh and scarier than that I’ve watched bits and pieces of the Timberwolves playing. Frightening.
- Speaking of which someone turn on the lights it’s Darko in here…

And with that I’m done, have a good holiday.

“Saw you the other day
Looking so undermined
Acting like it wouldn't happen
Making sense of anything that you could find

Because it's just about to happen
And you'll be there
You must have known the storm was coming
When clouds appeared

May as well let the rain come down
And join the circus of people
While you're there

Something is changing
Bruising and taking
And I'm trying to find out what it is
When I fix her, she's breaking
Reason keeps escaping me
Protecting the villain like a cyst

I know that I can help you
I just don't fucking want to
And the feeling is stronger by the day
Say that I'm selfish
But I know you need this
And I'm just so sick of the chase

While you are letting your guard down
I will be letting myself go
While you keep running your ship aground
I will be setting myself alight

Too late, you dropped the drawbridge
You let the vampires in
You caused this shit to happen,
and now you want out?

Too late, you dropped the drawbridge
You let the vampires in
I hope you know now that
it's nobodie's fault but yours!

While you are letting your guard down
I will be letting myself go
While you keep running your ship aground
I will be setting myself alight”

Get Your “Learn” On…

It’s been a weird week. It was my lovely wife’s birthday, I spent a bunch of time in bed out of it, and I’ve been insanely busy. So I’ll keep it short and sweet today, well maybe not sweet.

GREEN LANTERN TRAILER!

Yeah, before you ask, that IS Jango Fett as Abin Sur! Crazy. This looks promising. It looks like it’s going to embrace the Space Cop vibe, as well as the anything goes of a guy whose power is to make anything he imagines with a magic ring as long as he’s strong willed enough who happens to be a space cop. Also Sinestro just looks amazing. Oh and sure Hector Hammond has a Leader vibe to him, but that’s cool, ‘cause I love(s) me some leader.

AVENGERS, EARTH’S MIGHTEST HEROES – GAMMA WORLD!

So it looks like we are FINALLY going to see what’s going on at The Cube. The Leader took control of it, along with the Abomination & The Absorbing Man, during “The Breakout” two-parter. NOW we get a two-part Gamma World a week from today. I think we’ll get to see the Leader detonate a Gamma Bomb, the return of the Hulk, and maybe some ugly throw-downs between Thor and some of the gamma powered former inmates of The Cube. If we’re lucky it’ll be an episode chock full of the U-Foes!

ULTRAMARINES!

You know this looks very intriguing. If I can find a copy I’m going to watch the hell out of it. Y’see I’m not a big Warhammer 40K fan, but I am getting ready for a Sci-Fi war gaming campaign with Mike, and maybe Dave, so it’ll be put me in the mood. I’m thinking my Empire will be based on the British Empire, I’ll be using Red, White, & Gold as my colors. I’ll be a spanning Empire beginning to decline. I think I’m also going to try and make it so the reason some of my troops are special is due to a previous encounter with a Galactus type entity, or maybe a Great Old One, who tried to consume my stellar sovereignty only to be beaten back. I’m thinking this campaign will be our World War One only on a cosmic scale. Could be good stuff.

PENDULUM!

So Sludge on the Power Trip Morning show on KFAN has got me interested in this band. They’re a bit all over the place sound wise, and that’s fine. I have to say they have a cover of Metallica’s Master Of Puppets that I really REALLY love. So check it!

DHAMPIR BY BARB & J.C. HENDEE!

So I just finished this book (*** ½ out of 5) the other day. You know it’s decent, in fact it’s better than decent, it’s entertaining. The lead characters are fleshed out without being fantasy pastiches, the action is tight and non-repetitive, and the ending is satisfying while giving the book room for a sequel. The basic premise is Magiere, our heroine, is a monster hunter. We find out that all is not as it seems as her and her half-elf partner Leesil, along with his dog/wolf, Chap are running a grift. They play at hunting monsters. Magiere decides to give up the game and retire, but old enemies, even those you really haven’t even made, die-hard. It has a nice vibe of two rogues becoming real heroes almost despite themselves. Like I said there is room for a sequel, or it being a series, so I might keep my eyes open for other books by these two authors, because all in all this was a really fun read.

COWBOYS & ALIENS!

Cowboys & Aliens

This looks intriguing…

PAINTING MINI’S!

I know I’ve mentioned it before but Beasts Of War dot com is friggin’ AWESOME! I used some their advice and I’ve been able to hammer out some minis quickly and to a standard I’m very happy with. The washing works very well, and it makes me very eager to use the Army Painter dips that I have, since they both wash and seal. Overall I’m as excited and productive painting as I’ve ever been, which is good since I only have a million minis to paint, and with Sci-Fi War on the horizon that’s only going to get bigger.

Hmmm, how ‘bout some

RANDOM CRAP!

- Last night my wife graced me with allowing me to watch The Avengers, “Panther’s Quest”, last night. You know it was a damn good episode. I know last week I was somewhat critical of the way Wonder Man was portrayed, and I was a bit skittish with the direction they were taking the Black Panther, but after finishing the episodes, I’m more than o.k. with T’Challa being kind of a dick. Hell he’s a king, a great fighter, brilliant, and driven. He’s basically African King Batman. So the idea that he and Iron Man don’t care for one another is fabulous, and I love the idea that he and Captain America seem to have some sort of mutual respect. What I didn’t care as much for is Cap being characterized as simply a soldier who blindly follows orders, now if they show that this is just him sort of struggling with his “Man Out Of Time” phase that’s cool. However if he’s just there to be ordered around by, the very dislikable, Tony Stark character, then that just isn’t kosher. Oh, and where the HELL was Thor? I know the Avenger’s characters were wondering and so was I. And Cassandra…
- We made and consumed Chicken Parmesan last night and it was outstanding.

We’ll I’ve lost track of my mind. I have no idea where I was going next, so I’ll just be done…

“Release the spores
All's lost and there's nothing gained
Your time is through
Chasing a worthless fate
Wasting your mind, rotting inside

All of the dreams for your life now have died

Alien mind, ancestral memories
Released in time
Progress and savagery
Scavenging waste, conquest in space

All of the memories of life gone to waste

First in a line
Heading towards mastery
Why waste your time?
Seeking out clemency
You're left behind
Body and mind

All those before you, just slaves to the grind

It's your god-given right
I suppose I would let you win”

Wildcats Vs. Blue Chips

* = Yeah I'm a Wonder Man fan, what of if!?

Last night was another new episode of the Avengers. It’s the first time since the new series started that I’ve been less than bouncing off the walls with the decisions made. Let me start by saying I’m a Wonder Man fan. I know that some people hate him, or look at him as a dismissible character, but he came back to the Avengers, in the comics, at about the time I started reading. I was an avid West Coast Avengers guys and he, in my humble opinion, was the cog that made that book go. I always liked the idea of a guy who had the choice between hero and villain, and took the side of light. In addition he’s just a classic ‘nice guy’ brick. So my issues with the cartoon were Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man, is sort of an easily led idiot, in addition we don’t get the green and red suit except in a sort of Easter egg fashion.

Now for the good; M.O.D.O.K. was just friggin’ awesome! The Thor and Wasp team-up was fantastic. We get the explanation of why Cap doesn’t know Nick Fury the way most of ‘us’ think he should. Tony Stark is a complete bastard, and Hank Pym lets him know repeatedly, not to mention some insanely intriguing mentions of Ultron. “Wonder Man”-Buster Iron Man armor that was a both a surprise and really neat. There were a ton of extras as well, like the Cosmic Cube, Grim Reaper, and the assembling of the Masters of Evil towards the end of the episode. So while I wasn’t blow out of the water it was still incredible. Next week we FINALLY get the Black Panther, a trip to Wakanda, Man-Ape, and of course KLAW!

I finished the Third Gotrek & Felix Omnibus (**** out of 5) last night.

I didn’t get the resolution to Ulrika and Felix that I wanted or even hoped for; instead it was left for another tale. The final battle in Manslayer was a bit hard to follow, but entertaining. In fact overall I really did enjoy Manslayer the most out of all of the Gotrek & Felix tales I’ve read so far. Now that this Omnibus is done I have to restart my mission to find the 1st Omnibus as soon as possible. It demands to be read.

I’m feeling like a bit of

RANDOM CRAP!

- If I can get the Marvel SAGA Campaign to have a similar vibe to the Avengers cartoon, mixed with Soon I Will Be Invincible, then I’ll be completely satisfied.
- I’m trying to figure out the color scheme for my Sci-Fi army. I’m thinking old school British Red and White. There’s something about the “Red Coat” color scheme that I love. All though there is something to be said for the grey and black Stormtrooper look.
- November 26th will be the premier of Young Justice. Just one problem, that’s the night we get the two part EPIC Avengers episodes, “Gamma World”! Not to mention Young Justice will not be on going until January. Gawd dammit Cartoon Network get your shit together, things like this are incredibly annoying.
- Good luck today Joe!
- I’ve been spending some time on Beasts Of War dot com, and it’s a fantastic website. I’ve been gleaming a lot of painting tips there, and I might, MIGHT even paint a bit this weekend. The big thing is it’s inspired me to really make a go in the spring of building a gaming table. It’s a great site for gamers.
- I really would like some chili this weekend.

There is no better cure for apathy than an easy day. Thank you easy day…

“She was the queen of an evil galaxy
Living off the money she suckered from me
She wasn't satisfied living by the airport in Queens
Can you tell me now what any of it means?

Now listen
I see no point in trying to get you to listen
Your hypnotised by the camera you're kissing
My dogs are barking, man
All your cats are hissing tonight
Nothing gets settled when our animals fight
You look good in pictures but I think that the attention's going to your brain
Hey little sister why do I only see you on the white train?

Riding on the white train
Riding on the white train
Riding on the white train
Riding on the white train
Solo!

Solo!
Solo!
Solo!

Now you got yourself into a sticky situation
But I don't make moves unless there's some reciprocation
I gotta know now should I be anticipating love
Or will you slap me with your bitches' gloves?
Ow!

Satan destroys you
But Jesus puts you in a bowl and smokes you
Hey little sister!
Your dreams are dying living on the white avenue

Living on the white avenue
Living on the white avenue”

Eragon Vs. Little Shop Of Horrors

* = I'M AN F'N ANTEATER!

I want you to check because it’s amazing what a man with some time, a love of World Works Games incredible products, a Robocutter, and a plan can accomplish;
http://s936.photobucket.com/albums/ad201/theproffet27/?albumview=slideshow
Here’s at least a taste…

Amazing. So speaking of gaming tables, I want to make one next year, a real proper Gaming Table. That means buying a board, getting some insulate board, a cutter, flock, and all the trimmings. I want to build something I can use for the TOTAL SCI-FI SKIRMISH WAR that Mike and I are planning on busting out, oh and yes Dave your invited as well. But also I want to be able to use it for Fantasy War Games, and of course D&D.

Oh D&D. The monthly D&D group is informally on permanent hiatus. We just ran out of consistent players. I can’t ask Mike, Dave, and especially Cassandra to continue to play a game that would be more for me than for them. Fourth Edition just doesn’t work with a three-person party. I think what hurts me personally besides the money thing, which would be all the money I spent, is the lack of response I got to telling those peripheral individuals in the game that it was on hiatus because we didn’t have a consistent party. I know you set-up, do the grunt work of DMing, buy supplies, make sure people are fed, and try to make sure they have a good time for them, not for yourself, but I’ll be damned if I’m not hurt by this.

I invested tons of time on D&D. A lot of heart and soul gets poured into things when it’s your imagination doing the work. When a thing is built off the back of your imagination it’s a personal thing, and when that thing is minimized, or dismissed, or just ignored by folks who you’ve done this for it hurts. Now will I kick the game back up if we get a fourth person consistently, you bet your ass! But for now I really feel like I let those folks down somehow, let myself down by thinking this would go on indefinitely, and wasted a ton of time and money on something that in the end only myself and a handful of stalwart friends cared about at all.

And that my friends hurts.

How ‘bout some

RANDOM CRAP!

- Avengers tonight! The episode is entitled “Everything Is Wonderful”. Wonder Man perhaps?

- I’m almost done with the third Gotrek & Felix Omnibus. I have to say that Orcslayer, part two of the third Omnibus, was damn depressing. It was sort of a reminder that “HEY, this is the Warhammer Fantasy Universe, and there are NO HAPPY ENDINGS!” Don’t get me wrong it’s still good, and I’m eagerly awaiting the end, but it needs a positive pick me up somewhere.
- The shining brilliance that is Chris Sims did a review on Comic Alliance of the new Batman Porn, and it is HI-larious.
- My pal, and yours, Dave is starting a J-Pop/J-Rock, the ‘J’ standing for Japanese project. I’m not huge on that style of music; in fact I’m not really even a fan, that being said I’m extremely excited to hear this. The current name of the project is Vending Machine. The idea is that he’ll write the lyrics in English then do them in really poor Japanese. I know the music will be amazing, as 1,000 Suns, Waves Of Mercury, The Endless, and even Grant Brother’s Moving Company all are immensely incredible. It’s always humbling to know & be friends with someone that talented. In fact it’s amazing to know people like Heidi who is a fantastic painter and cartoonist, Steve Gilpin is a well known artist and the guy who got me hooked on Anthrax, Justine Cline used to draw me kick ass pictures of Iron Man when I was in 5th grade now he’s a published author, ‘Justy Timbo’ is a fantastic artist and musician when he’s not Pimping People’s Bows and getting his own reality T.V. show, and the list goes on and on. I hope that those of you who are so talented realize how much it is like walking among the ‘elite’ for us poor schlubs.
- It’s hilarious that Childress is so hated by the media, his own players, possibly some of his coaches, & especially the fans. Sure he’s an unfunny & unimaginative douche, but until he’s fired he’s still OUR unfunny & unimaginative void of personality douche.
- I just said “our” in relation to the Vikings. I think I’ve partaken of the Purple Kool-Aid. Will they revoke my Chief’s fan cred for that?

I think that’s all I can do today…

“Bitte Respekt meinen Wunsch

Don't Stop Believin'...

It’s Friday…

ROY THOMAS INVADERS!

I know some folks out there, Woody, think of Mr. Thomas as a bit hacky in his old school approach. For me and others like me who loved/love the Silver Age of DC, he is one of our favorite Marvel writers. He almost singlehandedly gave Marvel a Silver Age feel, and for that I thank you.

COSMIC ENCOUNTER!

So last night during The Thursday Board Game Conglomerate we partook of the vastly underrated Games Workshop C-L-A-S-S-I-C game Cosmic Encounter (**** out of 5), it was a fantastic time. The game itself is pretty easy once you’ve played a round, but the sheer amount of haggling, negotiating, campaigning to gain allies or even enemies every round make the game fantastic. Maybe it’s just the group I played with, but the constant finger pointing, grandstanding, name calling, betrayals, and almost victories made this game an easy 4 stars for me. If you get a chance pick up a copy of it, you won’t be disappointed.

MST3K – ESCAPE 2000!

Believe it or not I’d never actually seen this episode. I regret that it remained neglected for so long because it’s damn funny.

HANK PYM!

So yesterday I wrote about Hank Pym needing somewhat of a makeover. I read a clip from the up-coming Ant-man & Wasp miniseries, in which Eric O’Grady, the new and completely slimy Ant-man teams up with Hank Pym in his new identity as The Wasp, an homage to his dead ex-wife. In that preview Hank has a list of things he’s going to do to improve his legacy, one of them is set up a series of woman’s shelters and care centers nation wide. This is at least a positive spin on “The Slap”. Secondly was building “Heaven” for his dead friend Bill Foster. I have high hopes for this mini as well as Pym’s on going role in Avengers Academy. I guess if all else fails at least I have the incredible Avengers cartoon version.

BANDWAGON JUMPERS!

You know it’s easy to jump on and off a bandwagon, to change your picks midway through a season, but that’s not me. And to those that “enjoy not enjoying” football, don’t watch. Your negativity and need to be right are annoying and don’t make you funny or even ironic they make you douche, and no one likes a douche.

And with that I give you this week’s last

RANDOM CRAP!

- Seriously though your welcome to have a football opinion, but don’t be an asshat about it and certainly don’t think the season is over after seven games. I just received yet another long-winded response about the Vikings season from someone I don’t even really know, but based upon his or her responses I’m glad I don’t. I know that I can be a curmudgeon and NOTHING in life feels quiet as good as the smiting of one’s enemies, but c’mon! Even I don’t prattle on and on about things just hear my own voice. Even I, master of the “fish tale” don’t have that many “Oh yeah BUT!” stories to tell. Shit, this person strikes me as the kind who you give them one million dollars and they bitch that it’s not a million and one. I just don’t have the time or the patience to continue to beat my head against that sort of irritating wall. Sorry Dave, he may be a good guy but this series of e-mails smacks of someone who has too much free time on their hands and not enough friends.
- Ribs this afternoon, I can hardly wait.

And with that I bid you GOOD WEEKEND!

“He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He's there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He smiles at the young soldiers
Tells them its all right
He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight
Soon there'll be blood and many will die
Mothers and fathers back home they will cry
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile
The order is given
They move down the line
But he's still behind and he'll meditate
But it won't stop the bleeding or ease the hate
As the young men move out into the battle zone
He feels good, with God you're never alone
He feels tired and he lays on his bed
Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said
Sky pilot.....sky Pilot
How high can you fly

You'll never, never, never reach the sky
You're soldiers of God you must understand
The fate of your country is in your young hands
May God give you strength
Do your job real well
If it all was worth it
Only time it will tell

In the morning they return
With tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies
A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot
Remembers the words
"Thou shalt not kill"
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You never, never, never reach the sky”

Bloody Pit Of Horror Vs. Bride Of The Gorilla

* = Hank Pym just wants love. Just not crazy robot son love...

I’m still trying to figure out if what I saw last night was a fever dream or real. Did I really just see Baron Zemo, Arnim Zola, & Dough Boy in an Avengers cartoon? I DID! AND IT WAS GLORIOUS! So it wasn’t the classic Baron Zemo I into Zemo the 2nd scenario, but I did love that fact that Adhesive X had become Virus X.

I loved that Cap is the classic man out of time, and yet he beat the Avengers ass upon first meeting. We got a bit more Black Panther, although it makes me wonder what he’s up to, and even a tease of the MASTERS OF FRIGGIN’ EVIL at the end! My only disappointment was minor, no Hulk. I hope that we get back to the Hulk at some point. Oh and I’m digging the fact that Tony Stark is smart but no smarter than Reed Richards, who got a shout out last episode as did the Negative Zone & Prison 42, or Hank Pym. I know a lot of comic fans can’t separate Pym from slapping Jan back in the day, effectively making the character toxic. That being said I felt that Dan Slott did a really good job rehabilitating the character in his short-lived Mighty Avengers (**** out of 5) title. Not to mention when Pym slapped his wife he was being mind controlled and was officially mentally ill. Does this excuse spousal abuse? No. No it does not, but a lot of people have problems separating that situation from Mark Millar’s atrocious portrayal of it in the Ultimates. I’ve always felt that Hank Pym in any of his identities was an underutilized character that just needed a writer to care about him beyond “The Slap”. Hopefully the Avengers cartoon will give me that Hank Pym since the comic writers seem to struggle with that.

I finally finished Gotrek & Felix 2nd Omnibus (**** out of 5). Let’s be frank the Warhammer universe is a depressing place. If your not eaten by Orcs, you will be enslaved by Dark Elves, destroyed by the power of Chaos, eviscerated by the Skaven, or used as cattle to feed the Arisen, or any other numerous ways to meet your doom, but most likely you’ll die poor, alone, and hungry. It’s not high fantasy. Suffice to say it can be a bit arduous to read. Or play for that matter. Not to get off on a tangent, but the Warhammer Fantasy Role-Playing Game (*** out of 5), not the new Fantasy Flight thing, but the old one is a great game. It’s just I don’t want to play a game where I’m a Rat-Catcher, I want to play a game where I’m a BAD MAMMA JAMMA! Maybe that’s because in real like I’m stuck being the Rat-Catcher, who knows. I just want my role-playing games to be filled with wonder and adventure not lurking doom and crushing mediocrity. Now I know some of you will shout, “what about Call of Cthulhu (**** out of 5)?” What about it, it’s a fantastic game, but not one I look forward to. That is unless J.B. is running his Pulp Hero version of it. But I digress; the book is a bit more of a high fantasy take on a dark fantasy setting. For the uninitiated it’s like this;
- Gotrek is a dwarf. He’s also a Slayer. This means that somewhere along the line of his life he did something that caused dishonor on his name. SO he shaves his head, except for a huge red Mohawk, gets crazy tattoos, and then sets about to find and fight the nastiest stuff possible in the hopes of dying in battle. He longs to meet his Doom in order to regain his lost honor, the problem is nothing he has found yet has been capable of killing him.
- Felix is a human. He’s the outcast son of a merchant family. He’s educated, a luxury in the Warhammer world, and decent with a sword. During some political unrest Gotrek saves Felix, they get drunk, and Felix swears to follow Gotrek around and write the story of his Doom.
Suffice to say since we’re into book four by the time we start Omnibus Two, finding that Doom has been difficult. We also find out that Gotrek and Felix both have very powerful magic weapons that are changing them into something beyond mortal. The first of the books in the Omnibus touches upon the duos journey back from the Chaos Wastes and their encounter with a Chaos tainted Dragon, its aptly entitled Dragonslayer. It also touches upon Felix’s tumultuous relationship with Ulrika, a boyar noble and capable warrior in her own right. It also features a lot of the secondary characters like Max Schrieber, a wizard, & Snorri Nosebiter, another Dwarf Slayer. It begins to set up the love triangle between Max, Felix, & Ulrika. Part two of the Omnibus is Beastslayer, which covers the bands journey to Kislev in front of a great Chaos Army, & it’s subsequent siege. In it the love triangle comes to a boiling point. Finally in the Omnibus comes Vampireslayer. Ulrika is featured as she is stolen away, and made one of the Arisen. Felix & Gotrek, with companions in tow, go to Sylvania, the land of the Vampire Counts, and fight for their lives. It’s the most fun of the three stories, and the saddest as Ulrika, who is simultaneously one of the best and most frustrating of the secondary characters is pushed out of the cast. In addition there is the bizarre minimizing of the relationship by Felix. In some ways it’s as if Felix becomes more distant from his humanity just as Ulrika becomes inhuman. The true loser in it all is Max’s, who is a great character, unrequited love and it’s loss. It seems like I’ve written about everyone but Gotrek. Gotrek is the glue. He’s angry, he has the best one-liners, he’s a walking talking war machine, and in the end in a lot of ways he becomes the most relatable of the characters. Felix is very introspective but comes off shallow, Max is trying always exert control over everything, Ulrika is torn by duty, family, and what love means, while Snorri is insane. Gotrek on the other hand is what he is. He wants atonement. He wants justice. In the end he wants to find an end, a Doom, that befits him. He’s the most honest of all the characters, and he’s refreshing that way. Suffice to say I’m already over 100 pages into Omnibus Three, and have sworn to find Omnibus One, its all very entertaining stuff regardless of the depressing setting.

I’m sure there were other things that I was going to talk about, but I’m mentally side tracked for whatever reason. I guess when all else fails…

RANDOM CRAP!

- Young Justice starts in just a few weeks!
- So Morrison gave the lead-up to Batman Incorporated in his last issue of Batman & Robin. Bruce Wayne tells the world that…. He’s been financing the Bat the whole time. So he doesn’t come right and say, “Hey, I’m friggin’ Batman!” Instead he tells about how his parent’s death affected him and when the vigilante became a Gotham fixture he decided to put his money to good use. Now he plans on helping Batman go global. This is Morrison at his most brilliant. Batman is no longer about a man it’s about an ideal. Bruce Wayne, who has always been looked at, as more of the mask while Batman is the man, is looking to franchise his war on crime. Sure it rings of overtones that Morrison used in his incredible X-Men (***** out of 5) run, but it doesn’t diminish it all. The idea of Batman going around the world and recruiting, training, and endorsing a number of vigilantes is fascinating. It also ups the ante in his personal war. At what point does one man’s war bleed into real global conflict? Are we going to see Batman take on War itself? With Morrison the possibilities are truly endless and only limited by imagination itself.
- Banana Bread anyone?
- Board Gaming tonight. I’m simultaneously looking forward to it and dreading it. There is a part of me that wants to go home right this moment and never leave my room again. I’m feeling quiet overwhelmed by things. What these “things” are I can’t even put my finger on.
- As frustrated as I am by all things ‘Chili’ right now, I find myself craving a big bowl of chili. Go figure.
- I received an e-mail regarding yesterday’s blog. It wasn’t a bad e-mail, in fact it’s from someone whose opinion I not only respect but also admire. I’m asking currently for permission to post said e-mail and my response because I think it has real merit. It’s important that we get our viewpoints challenged, sometimes fully and sometimes just challenged over semantics. It’s also imperative that we have the ability to see the honesty and earnestness of that in order to be able to honestly assess ourselves. I’m evolving constantly. I’m in need of alternative ideas and opinions to make me look hard at my own ideas in order to better myself. So this is an open invitation, if you disagree with me or feel something is in need of clarification, do me a favor and tell me. Oh and Dave this is not a free invitation to just bash Pink Floyd repetitively.
- I think I’m going to keep bicing the head, I like it.
- I’m ill over the chest-thumping going on politically. I’m less upset over the politicians politicking or the pundits running off at the mouth, I think I’m more upset that this is where we are as people. Our collective memory is so poor that anything over two years is impossible to recall. Our ability to think outside of sound bites is indicative of why we are where we are. I want to believe things are going to get better that miraculously all involved will be putting the greater good of their constituents above petty political squabbles or partisanship, but I know I’m wrong. These folks, regardless of affiliation including Tea Partiers, don’t care about you or I; they care about ‘them’. And ‘them’ have a lot of money, connections, and clout. ‘Them’ is what has become wrong with ‘us’. As long as we continue to collectively suckle at the teat of ‘Them’ when it comes to, well everything we’ll never again know freedom of anything.
- I love(s) me some color blue.

- Baintronics spokeswoman Amanda Smythe held a press conference stating that they would be open to a partnership with the current majority shareholder of Steele Corp., celebutaunt superhero Jonni Steele. This partnership would be contingent on Ms. Steele assuming a public spokesman role as well as putting herself in a ‘body guard’ capacity for Baintronics head Sunset Bain. Ms. Steele could not be reached for comment.
- Former super villain Carlton Sanders, aka Trump, is writing a tell all book about his experience in the high-speed world of New York’s underworld. He claims his book would “name names”. Sanders has been a resident of St. Paul for two years after serving five years on The Raft.
- After a few weeks of contemplation Edward Sothal has bowed out of his run for State Senate. He sighted his unstable health as his main concern. Political handlers who wish to remain anonymous blame political pressure being applied to the moderate by special interest groups and the clout of the upstart New World PAX.
- Speaking of the New World PAX, they’ve scheduled a press conference in conjunction with Republican gubernatorial candidate Phil Grayfield. It is rumored that their Mr. Grayfield will publicly disclose his history as former mystery man NFL SuperPro. Grayfield has stated that he is in favor of a Superhuman Registration Act, a heated point of political contention in the state, requiring all those individuals operating with post human abilities to register as “dangerous weapons” with their state government. This would also allow for state officials to request these individuals assistance in the case of an emergency. It would also make unregistered masked vigilantes vulnerable to state prosecution.
- Allana & Sergie Zarkov, the stage magician duo known as Glamour & Illusion have signed to do a series of mass illusions in the Upper Midwest. The Zarkov’s are the children of famed illusionist and adventurers Glynis & Ilya Zarkov the husband and wife duo that once operated in New Orleans in the early 1980’s. The duo fell on hard times and Ilya was the victim of an unsolved murder. The children were born to their comatose mother. The two youths were raised in New Salem Colorado and have since become the darlings of the “Magic Scene”.
- General John Ryker has taken up the post of Warden & Head Administrator at the ‘Deep Freeze’ prison. He has already turned local government and watchdog organization head’s by using mothballed Sentinel units as a quick response team. This team was used most recently to stop the attempted escape of Darkoth The Death Demon. Mutant Rights groups have begun protesting the use of these devices sighting them as ‘culturally offensive’. The General was unavailable for comment.
- Last but not least the UCFF will be holding an exhibition bout in its new UCFF Arena located outside Chaska. The bout will pit the ‘Titan From Beyond The Stars’ TORGO, with Ben Grimm in his corner against the Gamma Powered Goliath, RAVAGE! With the arena being designed by Sunset Bain in conjunction with Damage Control Inc., it should be amazing to see these two super powered gladiators do battle for a good cause.

And with that I think I have something somewhere to do with someone…Anyone…

“I wear my scars like the rings on a pimp
I live life like the captain of a sinking ship
The one thing that i can guarantee
I'm like a stepping razor, i suggest you stay fair with me
Been payin’ dues for a decade plus,
Before that I was just another face on the bus
Tappin’ my foot, to the beat on the radio
Dreamin’ 'bout the mic and the money and the ladies
Oh mom, I promise I’m gonna be large
Someday I’m gonna stop tryin’ to borrow your car
Gonna go far, with charisma and skill
Until they put my face on a million dollar bill
Atmosphere, its just a ten letter word
Discretion is the name of my cement-feathered bird
And if you didn’t hear, fuck whatevers heard
I think you got the sickness I suggest you get it cured
Caught up in the mix, of a bottle full of fix
I’m gonna hobble down the street 'til I reach knob creek
Its not that I don’t like you, I just don’t wanna speak
You fuckin’ freak
Now keep your days out my week
The world keeps a balance, through mathematics
Defined by whatever you’ve added and subtracted
I’m pushin’ on the hammer, to trigger the brain
Embrace how I live it, god loves ugly

God loves ugly...

Once upon a time in Minneapolis, yo
I damn near had to steal the show
I stepped on the stage, who is it?
My names slug I’ve come to kill a couple minutes
Whats up with the way, that everybody gathers around each other
So they can steal each others sound
If its all about getting’ down with the get down
How long I gotta wait for these fools to sit down?
Appears more clear in its simplest form
Nobody sees tears when you’re standing in a storm
Abandoning the norm, and handling the harvest
Measuring the worth by the depth of the hardships
I welcome all the hatred you can aim at my name
I held on to the sacred ways of how to play the game
When the soldiers started runnin’ short on rations
I began tappin’ the egg, to spark the hatchin’
Make it happen
And take this captain to the gallows
I keep steerin’ us into an area that’s shallow
Talkin’ to my shadow, he advised me not to worry
He said I should plant my tree and let it rise out of the fury
So give me some light, a little love and some liquid
I’m gonna creep through the night
And put a plug in the spigot
And when the water grows
And the dam starts to overflow
Ill float atop the flood, holding on to my ugly

God loves ugly...

Why scream, when you can lose yourself inside the wide-screen
Let life be a bowl of melted ice cream
Or be the deer that’s caught in my high beams
I’m rollin’ with the lights on, scared stiff
Reality is just too much to bear with
Paranoid, walkin’ around careless
No wonder you’re in love with your therapist
Go to sleep my little time bomb”

Election Vs. Primary Colors

* = Ah 'Merica.

Psst. Hey. America. Over here. C’mhere. You and me, we should have ourselves a chat. Comfy? Ok here it goes. I want to see other people. Why? Well sweetie, you’ve changed. In fact you’ve changed a lot. No longer are you a home of the brave or a place where tolerance is key or even an effective cultural melting pot. Two years ago I thought we’d found something, maybe even rekindled that tender unconditional love we once had. Then you changed. You got so angry, so impatient, so ‘Merica.

All kidding aside last night has reminded me why I don’t think of us as that shinning example on the hill, and it’s not just ‘Mericans. Humans in general frighten me. We’re insular, xenophobic, easily cowed, and given the opportunity to do the right thing that is hard or to do the wrong thing that is easy, we’ll choose the easy every time. All animals, and yes Christian fundamentalists we are animals, do it. It’s risk versus reward thinking. There isn’t anything really wrong with it, it’s just because we are self-aware I had hoped that we’d be smart enough to see beyond what was being regurgitated to us by that 1% that controls 99% of the wealth on both sides wants us to see, say, and do. The mere fact that Michelle Bachman remains in the legislature makes me think that even here in Minnesota there is NO HOPE.

Now even if we disagree fundamentally on politics, like I do with Pita & Josey, we can be friends, because we can have a constructive dialogue. Hell sometimes it might even make me re-examine my own viewpoint. After surviving this election cycle though I’m finding that even I’m polarized. I think it’s just that there is a contingent of our ‘great’ society that is anti-intelligence. These are the folks that blindly follow cults of personality like Sarah Palin or Rush Limbaugh or Keith Oberman. You know the kind, those that can’t think for themselves instead they just regurgitate talking points. The scary thing is I’m beginning to realize that these demagogues are just puking out talking points given to THEM by other more shady talking heads. Does no one even try to think for himself or herself anymore?

It’s beautiful to be able to rant about this because NO ONE IS READING THIS! I’m the Internet equivalent of the guy with the sandwich board that says “The End Is Nigh!” I’m really hoping to win the lottery tonight so I can sequester myself away in some dark place away from humanity. I’m a modern hermit I guess. At this rate I would love to become agoraphobic, violently so. So in summation; ‘Merica we’re done, humanity bite me, Walking Dead is the BALLZ, and Cassandra I love you.

Anywho…

RANDOM CRAP!

- I’m almost done with the 2nd Gotrek & Felix Omnibus and it’s very entertaining. I’ll be starting the 3rd as soon as I’m done. I hope to eventually find, buy, and read the 1st one.
- This weekend I think we’re going to get after the garage, do some rearranging, and maybe do up those damnable leaves in the yard. We’ll see what we have the energy for.
- Is it 3:30pm yet?
- Speaking of energy I think there is something wrong with me. I’m tired all the time; I would say I’m listless. I’ve become disinterested in things that generally bring me joy; I’m bizarrely irritable, unmotivated, and just overall struggling to find the desire to do anything other than retreat into a dark room and sleep. Maybe I’m sick or depressed, I don’t even know anymore.

All I do know is this is how I feel. My dad once said, "...you know Bennie we are all really alone...Alone together..." It resonates with me, and that makes me sad.
- It makes me sad to realize that the time for grilling is done for the year.
- Tonight is another new episode of The Avengers and it’s going to be about Captain America. Can you feel my excitement through the internet(s)? You should be able to that’s how excited I am.
- Reality is such a disappointment.

And with that…

“Once I saw the galaxies in your Jack and Coke eyes,
And the sacrificial temple where your monster always dies.
Once I wrote a gospel out of every word you say,
And now you're on the front page of the USA Today.

Cutting to the front of the line I find my mind
Is no place to raise a family.
And I was looking all over for you, baby.
You were always right in front of me.
And tonight I'm declaring your love to be a waste of time and money.

Once I raised alpacas with your pet Komodo dragon,
While I was eating cardboard in my father's station wagon.
Once I sold everything I owned to buy you a diamond ring,
And now you're over at CNN sitting down with Larry King.

After 5 bottles of wine my friends opine that I should consider therapy,
But they've clearly never been with you, baby,
They don't know about the things that you've told me,
And tonight I am declaring my life is a joke no longer funny.

All publicity is good publicity
When you sell your conscience in this city
Achieving high elasticity
Shock resistant with electricity”

Black Cat Vs. Cat People

* = Look it's Jared Allen after another Viking's loss!

Halloween came and went. It was a small party this year, but it was insanely fun. The costumes were fantastic with Dave taking first wearing his Marquis get-up

in an ode to highly underrated artist Guy Davis, while Christina took a contested second with the Rabbit from Alice In Wonderland. Cassandra rocked out the decorations and the food as per usual. I wasn’t as into it as I’ve been in the past, but the folks we had there really brought the fun.

Friday night Cassandra and I watched Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (Infinite *’s out of 5)! I had eagerly waited to watch this since I’m a big fan of the comics. All I can say is I was not disappointed. The movie is a feast for the eyes, it’s funny, and it stay reasonably close to the original work. Chris Evans and Brandon Routhe steal their collective scenes though in what are two of the more memorable villains on screen since Eddie Chin! I know this movie didn’t do that well at the box office and I think that’s a shame, but I now understand why. People just didn’t get it. It’s not a dumb movie, it needs to be savored and tasted like a fine brandy. I plan on drinking it in at least three more times this month.

After that I exposed Cassandra to the first episode of The Walking Dead. I will refrain from giving it a rating till the 6-episode season is complete but let me just state now it’s FANTASTIC! The character beats are perfect as is the casting. The additions make sense and add to the overall tale, and they did NOT skimp on the gore. I think this has the potential to really show what a genre piece can do in greater contexts.

Saturday morning while I neglected doing anything of value I sat through the re-make of The Hills Have Eyes (*** out of 5). As far as re-makes go it’s very good. It’s got a ‘dusty’ feel that permeates it visually, the acting is solid, and it’s suitable gut wrenching in the moments where it mimics the original. The big thing is there is and was no reason to remake the original. It’s still an effective flick; this just sort of comes up short when compared to it. I think that’s my problem with all of these remakes, there isn’t a real call or reason to make them and that’s why I avoid them usually.

How about some

RANDOM CRAP!
- Even loving popcorn is wrong; I DON’T WANT TO BE RIGHT!- Mighty Mike and I are going to start a Sci-Fi skirmish campaign game with the No Limits rule set.
- I can’t wait for tomorrow to be over.
- Sorry to those that care about not “Learning” you all on Friday but I was at training.

You know that’s just about all I have to say about anything…

”Laboring in the liquid light of Leviathan
Specters swarm around the sunken cities of the Saurian’s
Rising from the void through the blackness of eternal night
Colossus of the deep comes crashing down with cosmic might

And none may see again the shimmering of Avalon
Or know the fates of all the races man has cursed
Long gone are the ages of the alchemists
Now there are none who know the secrets of the earth

Harken to the howl of the Huntsman's hounds
Or the clarion of kingdoms doomed and drowned

Lament for the passing of the Auroch
And the slaying of the ancient Wyrm
Would you dare to meet the gaze of the basilisk
Or face the flames as the phoenix burns?

And none may see again the shimmering of Avalon
Or know the fates of all the races man has cursed
Long gone are the ages of the alchemists
Blessed are those who keep the secrets of the earth
Lament the passing of the Auroch
and the slaying of the ancient Wyrm
Would you dare to meet the gaze of the basilisk
Or face the flames as the phoenix burns?”
